A Stop in Amsterdam

I just landed in Amsterdam after a long seven-hour flight, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was planning on doing work on the plane ride, but naturally, food and entertainment distracted me.

It turns out that airlines really pamper passengers on long flights. It started out with peanuts and pretzels – which was already a lot more than what I was used to – but the food continued throughout the duration of the flight. I had a decent pasta dinner with salad, bread and even a brownie. Then, they provided us with a light breakfast at the end of the flight.

Also, the entertainment options were great. We all had small TVs on the back of the seat in front of us, and I ended up watching Lincoln and The Impossible.

It turns out that the girl sitting next to me was in route to Brussels for a two-week study abroad session. Ironically, she was in Rome last summer and had a layover in Pittsburgh! I'm still not sure why I had to fly to Detroit to get to Florence, but it is what it is.

I might have slept for an hour on the ride over, but I'm not even sure I managed that. Either way, I'm in for a long day. I landed at about 5:30am Central Europe* time, but my body was telling me it was about 11:30pm. So, I really just missed my night's sleep. But I did get to see the sunrise in Netherlands, so that's a plus.
