The Town of Assisi

On the way back from Rome, Ben, Heather and I made a very quick stop in Assisi. I really wish we had more time – we were literally running around to catch our train. It's always an experience.

Assisi is a great little town. Given that it is the birthplace of St. Francis and St. Clare, the town is very religious. There are countless churches and monuments that overlook a simply beautiful landscape. Naturally, we were dodging raindrops again, but for the most part, it held out for us.

From the train station, the town of Assisi is about a twenty-five minute power walk up a relatively steep incline. I was literally sweating by the time we made it to the top. Luckily, on the way back down, we managed to hop on a bus. We even had time to hit up McDonalds – yes, right outside the small town of Assisi, there is in fact a McDonalds. Gotta love it.

Interestingly, there was a banner for the perugiassisi2019 on the Temple of Minerva, an ancient Roman building that is now a church. I had no clue what this meant at the time, but it turns out that the European Union started this European Capital of Culture project back in 1985 to "unite the peoples of Europe through enhancement of the cultural wealth and to improve the knowledge that European citizens have of each other, encouraging a sense of belonging to the same community". From what I understand, in 2019 Assisi will represent Italy as the European Capital of Culture. Pretty cool stuff. For more information, check out www.perugiassisi2019.eu.

Also, there are a few more panoramas that I stitched together that are not included below due to size constraints. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I really want to devote an entire section of this journal to panoramas. Hopefully that will happen in the near future.
