The Beach, The Fish, The Lemon

After the boat tour, we took the incline – oops sorry wrong incline, try this one – to the upper part of the Island as we made our way to the beach. It wasn't exactly the best beach day for a several reasons. As I mentioned early, the water level was unusually high, so there really wasn't much of a beach at all. And the part that was left, was pretty rocky. Not to mention, it was overcast, and the water was pretty cold.

But we made the best of it. I didn't actually go swimming, but I had a blast taking pictures and exploring this awesome natural rock formation. Sitting out on this rock was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Italy so far. The view was incredible.

Eventually we decided to eat lunch at a restaurant right on the water overlooking this rock I was referring to. We were the only people at the restaurant, and the owner set up a table on his dock overlooking the water. You couldn't have asked for a better view.

Given that I was on an island in Italy, I decided I'd better get some seafood. The seafood pasta was incredible – it even topped the pasta I ate in Venice. Given that the description of the pasta in the menu was rather nondescript, we were joking that we would probably see the owner paddling out to sea after we had ordered, catching some fish for the meal. As funny as that sounds, we probably weren't that far off. The fish was really fresh.

Before we left Capri, we had a limoncello tasting at store near the top of the island. Lemons are really big (as in popular and the physical size) in the Amalfi Coast region of Italy, and limoncello, a lemon liqueur, has grown to be the second most popular liqueur in Italy. To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of it, but it's all good.

We had an hour or so to kill before we needed to be back on the boat, so I ended up walking around the "commercial" part of Capri. Everything was really upscale. We're talking crazy fashion and jewelry stores and really fancy hotels. I'm guessing the whole island of Capri is not like that, but I was amazed at the high class products.
