Boat Tour

After the eventful ferry ride, another boat ride was scheduled into the itinerary believe it or not. However, this time, it was a private Capri Island Boat Tour on a much smaller motor boat. A few of the people in our group decided to skip the tour, but I figured it couldn't be nearly as bad as the ferry and decided to risk it.

I'm really glad that I did. It turns out that we were given an abbreviated boat tour of Capri because the water was so rough today, but it was definitely worth it. And the fact that we were on an unenclosed, small speed boat made all of the difference.

The island of Capri is absolutely beautiful. As you can see from the pictures, steep cliffs drop into unbelievably blue water. It's really something else. Apparently there are wild sheep that can be seen walking along the edge of the cliffs. We didn't actually see any on our boat ride today, so I'm not actually sure if that's true. If it is, I can't imagine how they don't fall off!

We were able to approach a few cave-like caverns, close enough to see the orange coral that grows just beneath the surface. Unfortunately, we weren't able to explore the Blue Grotto, a sea cave that is one of the seven natural wonders of Europe, but I think you can get a pretty good idea from this video. The sunlight that passes through the water creates a blue reflection that illuminates the entire cavern. Pretty cool stuff.
