Exploring Florence

After getting settled in our condominio, we decided to go out and explore the city. Our first priority was food. We ended up stumbling across a Panini place, and I had a great sandwich with ham, Brie cheese and mushroom paste. The restaurant was really cool. The owner spoke primarily Italian, but she seemed to understand English. One of the customers there spoke English and helped us out. Everybody who came in seemed to know each other, and there was a soccer game playing on the TV. I imagine this is a common scene in a lot of restaurants in Florence. We also had our first gelato from a place across the street. So. Good.

After that, we decided to wander without looking at a map. We were trying to find the Duomo, which would in turn lead us to the CAPA center, nut after about a half-hour or so, we had to stop and ask somebody. It turns out that we were headed in the wrong direction, but we did get to see a lot of Florence. We finally made it to the Duomo – it's incredible. It really doesn't even look real.

I don't know too much about the photos I took yesterday, but we are going to have a tour tomorrow, so I'll be able to put some labels on the photos after that.

Oh, and we might or might not have had to break out of that playground pictured below, but we'll save that story for another time.
