A View of Florence

This afternoon, we had our second urban studies course with Adriano. We briefly reviewed the geography of Tuscany before bringing things into a historical context. If I have time in the near future, I will try to include some of those notes here.

After the classroom lecture, we headed up to the Piazzale Michelangelo, a famous square that overlooks the city of Florence from a south mountain. The walk up the hill was pretty steep, but on the way, we got to see the only remaining medieval walls of the city (the other walls were since removed due to the city's expansion. Unfortunately, it was raining a little bit when we got up to the top – I think it has actually rained a little almost every day – but I managed to snap a few pictures.

And of course we closed the night with some gelato on the way back through Florence. The Italian dessert certainly puts all American ice cream to shame. I've had a fair share of gelato thus far – I think I've lost count.
