The Town of Orvieto May 28, 2013 12:00
After dodging raindrops in Arezzo, we met up with the rest of our group on a train in route to Orvieto. Dr. Galdi was taking us to the small town for a quick day trip. I guess he took last year's group here and they really enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to it.
After taking the funicular up to the Piazza Cahen in the city center, we walked down St. Patrick's Well. The well was built back in the early sixteenth century in an effort to secure the city's water supply in the event of a siege. The well shaft is over 170 feet deep and is surrounded by two spiral ramps in a double helix. Pretty cool stuff.
After the well, we headed up the street for lunch at the Trattoria La Palma. I had a great pasta dish and enjoyed spending time with the rest of the people in our group. While our trip to Orvieto was rather quick, it was well worth it.
