Our second to last stop before heading back to Florence was the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. Obviously there is not much left of the city after it was buried under five meters of ash during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, but the structures that were preserved are really cool.
We saw everything from public bath houses to amphitheaters to prostitution houses. Also, because sewage systems hadn't been invented yet, the streets would be full of crap – literally. Thus, at many intersections, there would be large raised stones that served as a crosswalk for pedestrians.
We had a pretty good tour guide, but looking back on it, I did feel a little rushed. Hopefully I'll get to go back sometime soon.
